Real World Education
Recently I had the pleasure of facilitating a discussion with a panel entrepreneurs who gathered at Full Sail University. My Media Communications students sat rapt as each panelist regaled them with stories so enthralling that I worried many of them would give up their educational pursuits and run straight into the working world.
Earlier in the week I was a panelist in another discussion which posed the question -
How do we connect education to the workforce of tomorrow?
During that session, we explored the purpose and value of higher education when grand sum of human knowledge is available online for free.It’s a precarious position to be in when just about everything you teach could be gleaned from a well-curated YouTube playlist.
Even so, I contend, the value of higher ed is in experiences like the one we shared on that particular day. If we can create meaningful opportunities for our students to connect to the content, to each other, to themselves, and to the wider community...
